What Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up is a Misleading Question

We've all thrown this query around. We've asked others and we've lamented our own inability to nail the answer down properly. But what if the question itself is the problem? What if we've created a society that assumes our childhood urges are impossible, simply because a few administrators and legislators got socialized out of their own sincerely held possibilities?

Might it be the case that we are all meant to be a version of what our childhood selves envisioned? The process of growing might be simply the stretch of education required as our brain develops, wherein we hone our craft. The thing that lights us up a kids.

On my errands this morning, the topic came up about how our state budget wasn't passed and certain aspects of daily life and business-as-normal just won't work tomorrow.

WHAT?

We saw this a couple years back with the federal government. When many, many diligent and hard working people stopped getting paid.

WHAT?

If you cannot count on the US Government to pay you.... Well, I leave the ramifications up to each and every reader to ponder.

What I see as glaringly obvious is that WE – humanity – have created a world that serves rules, budgets, impersonal structures, bank balances, and all sorts of made up concepts, rather than our own true natures.

I demand that we open our perspectives to allow for the next stage of our world.

It is time to take the reigns and redesign broken hierarchies & processes using the richness of the tools of technology and the global communication potential that exists, right now.

Let us figure out how to seek harmony with the whole planet, every single precious ecosystem and niche of life, in the course of designing work and governments and communities that support the really miraculous capacity of each human being to create, innovate, and love.

I demand a life-centric world.

Most assuredly, the transition team's work will be hard. But we've seen the fall of the Berlin Wall. We've watched as Apartheid evaporated into history. We've become acclimated to immense technological power in the palm of our hand.

The tipping point is out there for the crumbling of these archaic concepts that only divide those who decide from those who suffer, rather than serve to optimize our potential.

I want to work with all my might, to keep this discussion flowing.

I'm not the one to suss out all the details, but I am the one who can uncover our blind spots and advocate for all the discussions that will be needed to get the questions right.

So back to us individuals who struggle to see ourselves in currently defined professions....

Do you now see what a gift this might be?

My current version of the question is thus:

“How do I make a livable wage, while I stay true to the person I have been since birth?"
